Jail Overcrowding
I would address over crowding by doing the following: Placing 500+ inmates on community services detail cleaning roadside trash and graffiti. By doing this we could save the county an estimated $25,000 per day.
Lack of Man power in the Jail-Courts-Streets
Working closely with The Bexar County Commissioners Court to implement cost saving procedures. This would allow the Sheriff's office to place more deputies on the streets, in court security and within the detention center. Address the retention rate,offer training courses at no cost to the deputy/staff,offer more opportunities to advance to different areas within the department.
Higher Crime Rate
By establishing a 500 officer Task Force we can hit high crime areas more consistently both day and night. Doing this would solve several issues, expand the ability to cover more ground,send a message of strength and zero tolerance to criminals and offenders and most importantly offer the families in the community the safety they deserve. This same Task Force could also help serve and eliminate 170,000+ warrants.
Increase in Drug and Gang Activity
I believe by forming an elite Commercial Narcotics Intervention Team we can begin eliminating the amount of illegal drugs coming into our county.
Increase in DWI's
Establishing crucial check points in several strategic locations at specific times to be a deterrent and send a message of zero tolerance to drunk drivers andllimit the number of accidents related to drunk driving. Design,develope and implement road equipment to curtail the increase in wrong way driving accidents by disabling a vehicle as it enters the exit ramp the wrong way.

I know what strength and tremendous sacrifice it takes to serve your nation,country, your city and county. I have been there... To those individuals, I commend the work you do and the danger you put yourselves in each and every day. To the staff members inside the department, I know the load of work responsiblities that never seems to end and the critical conditions that you are put in every day, and for that I applaud your strength and dedication. Without all of you working together it simply would just not happen. I believe you deserve better, higher wages,more opportunity to learn and move up! You deserve to work in an environment that is fair and equal,where you can approach your administrator or supervisor and discuss concerns freely without the fear of reprimand or reprecusssion.
