ELECT LARRY RICKETTS SHERIFF
OF BEXAR COUNTY 2012
Military and Employment

I am proud to be a part of Bexar County...
I joined the U.S. Army in 1966. I served in Okinawa, Japan where I became a Sgt. (E5) and tried to go to Viet Nam. Because of my critical (MOS, Military Occupational Specialty), I had to find an alternate route. Not to be deterred, I applied for Infantry (OCS) Officer Candidate School, and was accepted. I went to Ft. Benning, Georgia for OCS and Airborne School. I applied for Special Warfare Training and was accepted. I served with the 3rd Special Forces Group Airborne at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. I volunteered for Viet Nam, and received my orders to serve as a Special Forces Commander in Viet Nam. I served as Commander of Detachment A222 Camp Dong Tre until August of 1969. Upon returning home to San Antonio, I joined the Elevator Construction Union, where I worked as a helper, mechanic foreman, and superintendent in construction for 20 years.
I joined the Bexar County Sheriff's Department in 1989 and worked every unit including the female units, hosptial, perimeter and transportation to TDC. I served for seven years at the Bexar County Jail and loved every day. I missed 3 days total in seven years due to illness.
I have stayed the course and continued to keep my finger on the pulse of the issues surrounding the deputies and the department. I will never give up and I don't quit.
