Last night we had the pleasure of attending a wonderful dinner with a group of ladies whose purpose is to help others and by doing that make it priority to help and empower women. They also help anyone in need because of tragic or unexpected circumstances. They are called SALEG, as you have read above from the title of this post. So last night we were able to meet them at a dinner where they were honoring the empowering men in their lives. Their fathers, husbands, brothers and friends that are there for them to help with all the events they create and the work it takes to pull them all together. It was very enjoyable and it gave me an opportunity to reflect and realize that not so much myself but my wife Jeannie and I together have been doing the very same thing for 27 years personally and through our business Kid Kountry. It fills our hearts to be able to help others in need. If its food, transportation,a place to live, clothing, child care or just a shoulder to lean on we have welcomed families, single parents both women and men into our lives and through the doors of our center and asked how can we help. We have raised our 3 daughters to do the same they in turn are raising their children (our grandchildren) to learn the art of paying it forward. I hope that in some way we have made a difference in the live's of others however small or large, just as long as we have touched a heart or made someone's troubles or burdens a little more easier to bare. I hope you can get a chance to look up their website and read about the work they do www.saleg.org and know that if we Jeannie and I and our family can ever help anyone in anyone all you have to do is call.....The week is halfway over so here's to easy sailing for the remaining days..... ~Larry
It seems the last few days have brought on some unexpected passings of family and loved ones of people in my life or that my family knows. I have attended a funeral today and will be attending another tomorrow. Let me just say that my heart goes out to anyone that has lost a loved one. I pray for God to offer you peace and comfort in your time of sorrow....it is never easy and there are really no perfect words to say. Our family has had its share of grief and tragedy and have always been blessed to have friends and loved ones to wrap their arms around us and lift us up. Then our belief that God offers us a life with him in his kingdom seems to help heal our hearts..... that and time is all that seems to fill the heart. If anyone needs my support during these difficult times please let me know. I and my family are here for you should you need us for anything......God Bless. ~Larry
We had a wonderful weekend full of visiting and sharing with so many friends and family. Thank you Rev. Livingston for the wonderful gospel and singing at the Mt. Sinai Church on Saturday night, what an uplifting evening surrounded by so many people full of joy and the workings and words of the Lord. Jeannie and I then went out to join in on the benefit fundraiser for our Sister in Blue, Donna Dacy, who is suffering from cancer. What a turnout, so many people there to show their support and to help raise money for the pain medication she needs. I pray for her and her family for strength and comfort during this hard time. Sunday we attended Church and what a lift it gives me as I head into another week working for the much needed change in the BCSO. I pray for those that are willing to step forward with me toward a new day, please put your faith in me you will not be disappointed. I am a man of my word and I am not afraid to work and work hard. With that said I hope the work week is decent to all I know that these times can be very challenging and our plates can become full very fast. If I can ever answer any questions you might have or help anyone please never hesitate to call on me......Have a great and blessed week. ~Larry
This weekend will be busy as most are. I gratefully accept all the wonderful opportunities I have to visit and meet new people. Knowing what the priorties are to those in the community is one of the most important things to me.The Sheriff is obligated to operate the jail in a proper manner by being administratively responsible, always mindful of the needs of the Deputies and Staff, to be fudiciary responsible and to maintain security in the courthouse. By insuring that all those things happen and come together is how we serve and protect you the customer. You and the families that live in the county, that work hard and pay their taxes are just as important as everything else, and one of the highest priorities for the BCSO. You deserve the best that we can give. This shared mindset is what I love most about Bexar County. It is formed and made up of all the small clusters of families, extended families, friends old and new ,schools, children and activities that draws us all together. We and all of our clusters is what makes Bexar County unique. With that said I would like to invite everyone out to our little neck of the woods, one that we are very proud of to benefit and fundraise for a very wonderful woman Ms. Donna Dacy. Donna has been a member of the East Central Area and Community all of her life, she has worked here, raised four daughters here and now has grandchildren that live ,and attend school here. She also went to back to school and became a Peace Officer and had been giving back by working for the Edgewood School district. Unfortunately Ms. Donna has been diagnosed with bone cancer. We, and I mean all of our extended friends and families which is stretched far and wide have been invited to attend this benefit at Mesquite Hall this Saturday Evening from 12:00 noon to 11:30. Come by,say hi stay for a while and join us in raising funds to defray the cost of medications for this very special lady, who is a dear friend and family to us.....Say a prayer tonight for Donna and her family, don't forget to tell yours you love them too..... ~Larry
I thought I would take this opportunity to share and update. For those of you that are aware and for those of you that are not, we are still waiting to hear when the primary election will be held. Due to the battle over the redistricting fiasco, we are all in limbo. Which is a shame, imagine the dollars that are being wasted during this time. It's hard on every individual that has committed to run for office, and extremely disrespectful to the voters who are waiting for their voter registration cards and to know if this will affect their voting location. It's important that we all stay tuned and as we wait for this decision please know that you are more than welcome to call on me with any questions or concerns you might have. We are still campaigning hard and welcome any thoughts or ideas. Stay tuned here and on the front page of this website for information regarding the primary date and meeting dates and locations that we will begin utilizing to put Team Ricketts into action....until next time,be safe and hug your loved ones..... Larry
Today I had the pleasure of meeting with a wonderful home owners association. What a pleasure to first be invited then to meet such fine folks. I am grateful for opportunities like these because it's the people, families out in the county that are important. Besides the financial integrity of the Sheriffs Department and the jail, it's the BCSO responsibility to also stay cognizant of all the problems and needs of those in the community. In order to do this, once again I will say that we must look for ways to reward our deputies and staff for the work they do day in and day out. Much of that requires a lot of patience, intelligience, commitment and above all dedication. We have a wonderful group of Deputies and staff to serve but they have been neglected in to many ways to count, for far to long. Two of my major goals once elected is to begin implementing processes that will reward deputies and staff, work on the retention rate, offer more opportunities for cross training, and begin building task forces to serve as a support to the deputies in efforts to curtail crime. It is way overdue, I hope you will join me and help by being a part of this much needed change....this can happen when you go to the poles to cast your very important vote...Vote Ricketts.
Well this last week has been so busy God has blessed me with so many opportunities. I had the pleasure of joining Rev. Livingston on his radio show on 1480am where many followers are able to give praise during the day and to also learn about what is going on in their community. I would like to thank the Reverend and Ms. Gigi Hughes for making it all possible. If you have not met Gigi you are missing out what a wonderful, dynamic woman and supporter that I also call friend. Today we attended the NW Democrats morning meeting then headed over to Marianito's Extreme Tex-Mex owned by Felix Ximenez & Family, home of the 7lb. Burrito called The Grizzly! We passed on The Grizzly and had a regular lunch. The food is fabulous, if you haven't eaten there I recommend highly that you take an opportunity to stop by!!! Felix and the Staff are so friendly and inviting!! All in all it was a great day and as the day comes to a close I'm spending a quiet evening with my biggest supporter, my wife Jeannie who never seems to tire and who always has positive thoughts and words that lift me to have continued faith during this challenge....thank you Lord for her and for the beautiful rain you've provided for us so abundantly this weekend.... Larry
Well as I said in my last blog I was preparing for tomorrow, little did I know that I would actually prepare now for what was four days!!! Needless to say it has been a blessed four days. Attending a wonderful Valentine's celebration at Santa Nino Church, stopping in at Marianito's and meeting Felix the owner of a great restaurant and more! Anytime I have the opportunity to meet someone and hear their concerns I am grateful .But I would be remiss if I didn't admit how thankful and proud I am to have met and had lunch with a certain group of deputies that are tired, fed up,broken hearted and ready for a change in a positive direction, and I totally agree with them. When you no longer enjoy coming to work, enjoy what you do there, find your self frustrated because you feel as if there is no attractive promotional opportunities, if you haven't had a proper pay increase in several years to demonstrate how important and valued you are then I say with a resounding YES!!!! Its time for a change. This is what I want to see for the men and women of the Sheriff's Department, with your support I know we can work together to have a unified, proud team that will work cohesively, welcome achievement and outside of the box thinking. I'm not saying that I do not respect or appreciate many of the old ways of the past but I do understand that this is a different day we live in and we must find the balance between the two. I think this gentleman said it best. "There must be,not a balance of power, but a community of power;not organized rivalries, but an organized peace." ~Woodrow Wilson Have a great week, Larry
I read something today that I have read many times before. But this time it struck me so strongly because it is so appropriate to the life that I have led for the last 16 years in trying to make a difference along with the Deputies and the Staff of the BCSO. The quote is..... If you don't change..........then nothing changes. If you don't do anything to change your circumstances then your circumstances will never change. It is not God's job to change us it is ours. Many times I have considered giving up on my fight to make a difference but there was clearly something in me that just would not let me do that. I know now that it is the single most important thing that I have ever believed in in my life, it is what I have taught my children and my grandchildren its the principle I must apply to all situations in life and that is...Do the right thing. I know I am doing the right thing by standing up for those that deserve and need it the most...for the things that I know and have witnessed cannot be allowed to continue any longer, so still I go on. So when you see me,my signs, hear me speaking and all of the political stuff that is the norm, know that I believe in something bigger and that is the quote, If you and I don't change and are not willing to be a part of the change......Then nothing will every change...and sadly remain the same. Larry
Today we spent a little time delivering signs to supporters and making repairs to the ones that the weather has damaged. It was a great day to get that done because it allows me to travel around the community and see where the needs are or where service could possibly be increased. It puts me in touch with my surroundings and gives me a better vision of this big beautiful county of Bexar. I enjoy meeting people new and old that I visit to deliver yard signs and also enjoy thanking those business's that are so kind as to give permission for me to put my larger signs up on their property. The end of the day was spent organizing what will be a super busy weekend that I am looking forward to, because it is packed full of meeting with so many amazing people that I am suddenly feel extra blessed for these opportunities! Have a great Friday! Larry
